Advertising conquering new territory
Emails used to be a place where you can write to your frinds or others without going through the trouble to buy stamps, walking to the mailbox, and spending weeks waiting for responses. But now it is the perfect place for companies to spam everyone with their advertisings at one click. Blogs used to be a place where you can share your feelings and opinions. But now it is full of splogs.
I guess what I want to ask is not just how or why this happened, but since this is becoming such a huge problem that most people notice, what should we do about it? Or do people actually want to have the net and search engine fill with ads and just the popular culture?

you know...i used to be really incensed about spam, etc. until i took a look in my own physical mailbox. i don't get physical mail anymore. i get junk mail (physical spam) and that's it. but it doesn't have me upset. so why should i care about virtual spam?

If there's a way to stop all this spam... I hope it reveals itself soon because yah, it's definitely annoying. Similar to what you were saying about how emailing used to be simply to exchange mail with friends through an easier means... with the spam... it's almost like someone just barging into your house for no apparent reason. Spam doesn't ask for permission to be there, but it's there, regardless!
I stick with gmail now... it weaves spam out! It's a temporary solution~
